Pets, Equine & Wildlife, Portraits & Art Classes by Carla J. Cebrelli
Carla Jean Cebrelli is a Fine Art Graduate of Paier College of Art in Hamden, Connecticut. Her studies then continued under the direction of world renowned mixed media artist and instructor, John Massimino. Carla relocated to Phoenix, Arizona in 1984, to pursue her dual passions: horses and art, and over the years she has established a reputation of excellence in both fields. She has ridden and shown Arabian and Quarter horses, and currently shares her artistic skills through teaching "method art" drawing, composition, and color theory in individual and group sessions. Since childhood, her passion for life and all creatures of the earth has inspired her interest in portraiture, equine, and wildlife paintings. She has an uncanny ability to capture their unique personality and spirit. “When you create from the soul, the result is an extraordinary expression of life.” Carla’s custom paintings and pet portraits adorn the walls of many private and public collectors in Arizona, New Mexico, California and across the North East coast. Her work has been exhibited at the Phippen Museum’s Western Art Show, the Sun Dome Exhibit, John Strong Gallery and Trailside Gallery, Jackson Hole Wyoming. She has been a featured artist in the Arizona Republic, the Sonoran News, Desert Advocate, Carefree Enterprise Magazine, several Phoenix Home and Garden Magazines, and Essential Southwest publications. Today, she balances her time between teaching classes in drawing and painting, creating commissioned work, and riding instruction. But her greatest reward comes from watching her students express themselves and improve their skills and self confidence.

I believe that passion is the driving force behind every great work of art. As a portrait artist, I feel that my paintings are created from the inside, out. Each drawing…..each portrait, reveals its own life, personality and expression ...and that’s what I strive for in every piece. If I can express this to the viewer, or to the commissioner of a portrait, then I can feel that I’ve reached my goal.
As an artist and art teacher, I can fully appreciate the instruction and insight that I have gained from the brilliant instructors of Paier College. Today, I can apply what I’ve learned, along with what I’ve experienced through my own work when teaching my students. I consider this a special gift…to me…and from me. It’s amazing what you learn when you teach!

Everyone hears and sees things differently! I believe an instructor needs to be able to find ways to communicate to each individual student. We, as adults or children, read, hear, absorb and comprehend things differently, and at different rates. To me, the best teachers are the ones that are able to identify these differences, go the extra mile and adjust their techniques accordingly. Some students seem to put more pressure on themselves to do a better job, while others will need a bit more coaxing to apply themselves. I understand the importance of "customized communication" and have had the pleasure of experiencing it's success.
In my classroom, I strive for a balanced atmosphere for learning, intrigue, creativity and fun to promote and cultivate individual progress, boost self-esteem, encourage personal growth and lay the foundation for success. Without these, the maximum potential for learning and the ability to retain what is learned, is either retarded or lost.
I am passionate about what, and how I teach. I enjoy watching the students, both children and adults, when they realize their own growth and potential, and when the culmination of exercises and executions show them success and improvement. Moreover, they understood why and how they achieved that success!
"Method Art Class"
"Method Art" drawing class is a comprehensive, fun class that teaches students to draw in an easy to follow format. Drawing is a skill, and anyone given the right instruction can learn to draw, and draw well. The most common reaction I get when telling people this, is "Not with me, I can't draw a straight line" (while rolling their eyes back into their heads).
Most of my students have had no prior experience or instruction in art and I am always happy to say that they are all pleasantly surprised at what they have accomplished after just a few classes. In some cases, after only one class.
Initially, I show students how to turn objects into shapes with the proper angle. It sounds simple, but that's just the beginning. What's simple to understand, is the method used to teach, and to learn a new way of looking at things. If you can hold a pencil and see the difference between a square and a rectangle, you can learn to draw accurately. So to all of you who are convinced that you just can't draw, give me a few hours of your time. The payoff is grand, and you will feel great about your accomplishments. Guaranteed!
